NYSERDA has launched its first request for proposals (RFP) for offshore wind energy to help accelerate progress toward New York State’s goal of developing 2,400 megawatts (MW) of offshore wind energy by 2030.
Through this 2018 solicitation, ORECRFP18-1, NYSERDA seeks to procure 800 MW or more of offshore wind renewable energy certificates (ORECs) as authorized by the New York State Public Service Commission’s Order establishing the Offshore Wind Standard.

Responsible Offshore Development Alliance Forms to Coordinate Fishing Industry Action on Wind Power
With offshore renewable and wind energy development becoming increasingly common on the East Coast, a new alliance has formed to ensure that these developments are compatible with the existing interests of the nation’s fishing communities. The Responsible Offshore Development Alliance (RODA) brings together a broad range of commercial fishermen from across the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic to advocate for their shared concerns over emerging offshore developments.

Fisheries Technical Working Group (F-TWG) Meeting, New York, New York.
The First meeting of the F-TWG will cover F-TWG organizational structure, framework, and an overview of the state’s role and activities as they relate to offshore wind and fishing. We will also engage with the group on topics of discussion that have been identified through interviews with the core F-TWG members. These include:
- Discussing a framework for determining key best management practices (BMPs)
- Soliciting information on priority research needs
- Discussing ways to support collaborative research and gauging interest in a science workshop focused on fisheries and offshore wind
- Seeking feedback on communication needs and standards for offshore wind developers and fishermen
- Discussing other topics of interest to the group, and soliciting feedback on priority focus areas for the F-TWG in the coming months.
