The New York Energy Research and Development Authority is hosting the State of the Science Workshop on Offshore Wind Energy. The State of the Science Workshop 2020 Cumulative Impacts to Wildlife will be in Rye Brook, NY on May 5-6, 2020. The workshop will identify key studies that could be conducted in the near future and will assess the knowledge of offshore wind development’s cumulative impacts on ecosystems and populations. Massachusetts and Rhode Island Port Access Route Study: Notice of availability and request for comment
The draft Offshore Massachusetts and Rhode Island Port Access Route Study, by the First Coast Guard District in Boston and published in the Federal Register, is now available for comments. The aim of the study, conducted between March 26 – December 15, 2019, was to examine existing waterways and shipping route uses to enhance navigational safety of the area.

PETITION REGARDING OFFSHORE WIND PROCUREMENT Authorization for 2020 Procurement
NYSERDA filed a petition to initiate a regulatory proceeding seeking Commission authorization to issue a 2020 offshore wind solicitation. The petition addresses Governor Cuomo’s announcement in his 2020 State of the State Address, that in 2020, NYSERDA should issue its second solicitation for offshore wind facilities to yield at least an additional 1,000 megawatts of clean power.

25 MW Floating Offshore Wind Development Coming Online
The Windplus consortium, owned by EDP Renováveis, ENGIE, Repsol and Principle Power Inc., will be installing the largest floating wind turbine in the world. The project will involve three machines with a total capacity of 25 MW. The development is located off the coast of Viana do Castello, Portugal, and will come online at the end of 2019.
